02 · Overview

What it does.

A full yacht dealership platform built from the ground up. A public site for browsing yachts, brands and custom-build projects with inquiry capture, and a private dealer portal for managing listings, documents and leads. Powered by a custom React admin CMS and a Node/Express + MySQL API handling authentication, role-based access, image processing and file uploads — no off-the-shelf storefront, every layer owned and under control.

04 · Decisions

The choices that shaped the build.

Tech is downstream of decisions. These are the calls made early enough to compound the right way. The ones a code review six months later still agrees with.

Own the engine, don't rent it

The whole stack is custom — React front, Node/Express API, MySQL — instead of leasing a Shopify-style storefront. No monthly platform tax, no feature ceiling: dealer logic, pricing and the data model bend to the business, not the other way around.

Relational on purpose, not by default

Brands, yacht groups, yachts, inquiries and documents are deeply interlinked, so MySQL with Sequelize was the right call over a document store. Relations stay consistent and queries across the catalog stay simple.

Locked at the API, not just the UI

The dealer portal and private documents are protected by JWT and role-based access enforced on the server, not hidden behind the interface. What a user can't see, they also can't reach.
